RESEARCH AREAS

Research areas include studies related to the characterization of erythrocyte proteins and glycoproteins of non-human mammals (goat, buffalo, cow and pig). The structural features of sialoglycoproteins or glycophorins of the membranes from goat, buffalo and pig erythrocytes in comparison with human erythrocytes are investigated. The structure and properties of proteins exposed on erythrocyte cell surface are studied by treatments with proteases and neuraminidase. Research work is in progress on effect of different stress conditions like oxidative stress; heat etc. on human erythrocyte proteins with respect to their structure, interactions and functions. Membranes and cytosolic proteins obtained from stressed erythrocytes are analyzed by electrophoresis followed by mass spectrometric identification.
